FindArticles- http://www.findarticles.com/cf_0/PI/index.jhtml: FindArticles.com is a vast archive of published articles that you can search for free. Constantly updated, it contains articles dating back to 1998 from more than 300 magazines and journals. If you don't have or can't remember the user name or password for EBSCOHost this is a good second choice for searching.

National U.S. News Sources

Yahoo! News - http://dailynews.yahoo.com/: Yahoo, offers a place where you can search for daily news using their searcher, or by browsing in subject areas. Items are taken from a variety of news sources, but tend to focus on current dates of publication.
Search CNN News - http://www.cnn.com/SEARCH/index.html: Thorough archives going back several years. Check the box of the specific archive(s) to search to speed your search.
Search USA Today - http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/USAToday/: A national newspaper. Easy to search, especially if a particular section is checked.
The Online News Hour - http://www1.pbs.org/newshour/search.html: The highly respected news program from public television is on the Web, offering current news and transcript archives of past programs.
American City Business Journals - http://bizjournals.bcentral.com/search.html: Searches the archives specialized (business) newspapers from 35 U.S. cities.
Television News Archive - http://tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/: "The Television News Archive collection at Vanderbilt University is the world's most extensive and complete archive of television news. The collection holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including Nightlines since 1989. These special reports and periodic news broadcasts cover presidential press conferences and political campaign coverage, and national and international events such as the Watergate hearings, the plight of American hostages in Iran, and the Persian Gulf war." MetroArchives - http://www.metroactive.com/papers/index.html: Searches archives of several of the smaller Bay Area newspapers. Must indicate key word or concept search type.
San Francisco Chronicle - http://www.sfgate.com/search/: The archives go back several years. You must choose the year, searching each year separately. Also will need to indicate several other search parameters. The archive includes staff written articles only, no wire service stories.
Detroit News: Nice search engine, due to ease of indicating the type of word combinations wanted.
Detroit Free Press: Must to indicate if you are searching for a concept or key words.
Dubuque (Iowa) Telegraph Herald Online: Be sure to scroll down to see the searcher.
Honolulu Star-Bulletin Online: Must to indicate if you are searching for a concept or key words.
Kansas City Star: The archives go back several years. You must choose the year, searching each year separately.
NY Daily News: Be sure to indicate that you need to search the archives (rather than just the "Today" default).
Phoenix New Times: A hard-hitting and irreverent look at the news in Phoenix, AZ and beyond.
Raleigh News & Observer: Search by key word or concept; set the maximum number of articles (results) you will allow.
Sacramento Bee - http://www.sacbee.com/static/live/search/index.html: Archives go back to 1984. Searching is free but there is a charge to print articles.

College Newspapers

The Daily Californian: From U.C. Berkeley. Searches back through the archives to the summer of 1995.
The Daily Iowan: Search engine for the archives is toward the bottom of the page.Search or browse back issues of The Daily Iowan since Tuesday, January 16, 1996.

Newspapers Outside the United States

The Irish Times: Allows narrowing of the archival search through several parameters.
The Jerusalem Post: Be sure to indicate Today's Edition or Archives before searching.
